Two objects that match perfectly under one light source can display a visibly discernible color difference under another. In the automotive industry, a finished vehicle consists of metal panels, plastic bumpers, trim pieces, and other components—each made of different materials and supplied by different vendors. If these parts are evaluated under different lighting conditions at each stage, the final assembly may suffer the embarrassment of “looking flawless indoors, yet revealing mismatches outdoors.”

This challenge is by no means unique to automobiles. Display panel manufacturers must ensure consistent screen colors across varying ambient light. Camera module makers need a traceable spectral-response profile for their image sensors. II. 2014: A Seed of “Seeing” Planted

In 2014, THOUSLITE Intelligent Lighting was founded in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China. At that time, the LED lighting industry was undergoing a profound transition—from merely replacing traditional light sources to embracing intelligent control. Most players were focused on making LEDs brighter, more energy-efficient, and cheaper. But the founding team of THOUSLITE looked deeper, asking a more fundamental question:

Conventional light sources have fixed spectral power distributions (SPDs). A fluorescent tube has its own spectrum; an incandescent lamp has another. You cannot make one luminaire simultaneously emulate the softness of dawn, the intensity of noon, or the warmth of dusk—let alone precisely replicate the illumination under which a museum oil painting was originally viewed.

What THOUSLITE set out to achieve was to break that “fixed” constraint.

The underlying logic of THOUSLITE’s technology can be distilled into a single sentence: through the coordinated combination of multi-channel LEDs, we achieve precise tunability of the spectral power distribution.

The principle is elegant. LEDs emit light in narrow bands, and each peak wavelength produces a unique “timbre,” much like the different instruments in a symphony orchestra. By integrating dozens of LEDs with distinct peak wavelengths into a single device, and independently controlling the intensity of each via proprietary algorithms, we can “synthesize” virtually any target spectral power distribution (SPD).

THOUSLITE’s library contains hundreds of LED types with different peak wavelengths, covering the full spectral range from ultraviolet through visible to near-infrared. Built on this technology, we have created the world’s leading commercially available spectral-tunable lighting platform—LEDCube.

The technical specifications of LEDCube are enough to impress even the most demanding engineers:
• Spectral range: 350–1000 nm
• Color rendering index: CIE Ra > 98
• Metamerism index: MI Grade A—the highest level in international standards
• Correlated color temperature: continuously adjustable from 2000 K to 20,000 K
• Wireless control: supports synchronized operation of up to 256 units

The Color Rendering Index (CRI/Ra) measures a light source’s ability to render object colors faithfully. The closer to 100, the better. Ra > 98 means that the red you see under this light is pure red; the blue is absolute blue—no bias, no “almost,” no compromise.

The Metamerism Index (MI) gauges the consistency of color perception among different observers. MI Grade A signifies that whether you are a seasoned veteran or a newcomer, Eastern or Western, your color judgment under this light source will be consistent—beyond dispute.

Museums and Cultural Heritage Preservation: THOUSLITE’s spectral-tunable technology is applied for “conservation lighting”—effectively filtering out UV and IR radiation while precisely controlling blue-ight levels, allowing precious artworks to be “seen” without being “harmed.” Worldclass institutions such as the Louvre and the British Museum have already integrated multi-channel spectral-tunable systems into their lighting infrastructure.
